Research - Week One

For my first week I chose to do the movie promotion package along with a website for the film and a poster. I began researching different movie trailers to start understanding the concept of them. At first I looked at graphic movie trailers, as I have a personal interest in them, I chose to research movies that are based on comic books and graphic novels, and therefore looked at the trailers for ‘Sin City’, ‘Watchmen’ and ‘The Spirit', three movies that I have seen and thought were ideal for my project as they would be a challenge for me and would have an unusual yet unique selling point for my chosen audience (older teens-young adults). I also looked at Theorists of narrative structure such as Todorov and Roland Bartes. Todorov distinguished between story and plot and created the five stages whereas Bartes believed in narrative codes that create an impression of reality. I will be able to use these theorists as well as their theories to help create an impression of reality in my movie trailer.
